Teaching and academic records must be retained and disposed of according to the retention schedules. Faculty may not retain student work, which is the student's intellectual property, or use it in future classes without written permission from the student.

Common records held by faculty include, but are not limited to:

  • Class Roles and Grade Sheets: Destroy three years after reporting to University Registrar.
  • Course Materials and Student Assignments: Destroy one year after the end of the course if not returned to the student.
  • Course Syllabi: Destroy when superseded or obsoleted.

Common records held by academic departments include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Record: Undergraduate: Destroy five years after graduation or last date of attendance.
  • Student Record: Graduate: Destroy ten years after graduation or last date of attendance.
